Leisure in Rendsburg: culture and nature at their best

Rendsburg combines the Kiel Canal as a maritime centre with short distances into the countryside and a compact city life. That makes it ideal for active recreation, culture and everyday downtime. Something to look forward to.

Maritime Rendsburg: the Kiel Canal, shipping and promenades

The Kiel Canal visibly shapes Rendsburg and makes the town one of the most interesting places for ship watching in Schleswig-Holstein. Along the towpaths you can see freighters, cruise ships and pilot boats at close range. The paths around the canal promenade are particularly attractive, as are the viewpoints at the bridge structures, which combine the maritime infrastructure with the town panorama.

Nature, parks and proper recreation

In Rendsburg, water and green space are quick to reach. With their quiet, flat routing, the canal banks are well suited to walks, running routes and bike rides. For a quick break during the day, the inner city green corridors and seating areas are ideal. They work well for short distances, small loops and a few relaxed minutes outdoors. If you want more nature, the surrounding area offers varied cycle routes and field and forest paths.

Culture, museums and events

Rendsburg has an interesting cultural programme that is easy to reach:

  • Museums focusing on the history of the town and the canal area
  • Cultural venues and programme houses with concerts, readings and stage productions
  • Town festivals and seasonal events that bring the town centre and the waterside to life

Being close to the maritime economy and its role as a canal town also mean themed tours and formats connected to shipping and the history of technology.

One of a kind: bridges, ferry and panorama

Rendsburg has several landmarks that you will find in this form nowhere else. The imposing canal crossing with its bridge structures is not only part of the infrastructure but also a viewpoint and a photo subject. It is complemented by the unusual canal crossing by ferry, which combines everyday life with a piece of engineering history. If you like seeing a town from above, the bridge areas open up views of the water, of historic ships and of the layout of the town.

Sport and exercise

Rendsburg is excellent for endurance sport and everyday activity. The low traffic canal paths with their even surface are made for jogging, walking and cycling. In addition there are sports on offer at clubs and gyms, including team sports, fitness and water sports in the wider area. If you like planning longer trips, Rendsburg works well as a starting point for routes along the canal and for regional cycle paths.

Food, drink and city life

Rendsburg offers food and drink that is down to earth and varied at the same time: from cafés in the town centre to restaurants serving regional cuisine and venues with a view of the canal. Weekly markets and local producers round out the everyday choice. The town centre keeps distances short for errands and browsing, with a classic centre of shopping streets and services.

Further information for you

Current event tips and leisure listings can be found on the official pages of the town of Rendsburg and in regional event calendars. Top activities and restaurant reviews are also available on Tripadvisor.

What are the differences to Airbnb and other temporary types of accommodation?

Other temporary types of accommodation compared

  • Hotels and apartment hotels: Bookable by the day, with services such as cleaning, more expensive per night but more flexible; up to 40% more expensive than temporary flats.
  • Serviced apartments and boarding houses: Similar to furnished flats, but with hotel services such as a concierge; suitable for stays of several months and particularly popular in cities.
  • Micro apartments and co-living: Small, efficient units (often under 30 m²) that are cheaper and more environmentally friendly. They are rented by single people or commuters who share the communal areas.
  • Shared flats and guest houses: Inexpensive rooms in a shared setting, flexible but with less privacy, often used by students.
  • Container and modular housing: Temporary, mobile solutions for construction sites or transitional periods, economical but less comfortable.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Everything you need to know about your stay

Here you will find quick answers to the questions we are asked most often. If your question is not among them, please contact us directly.

With temporary living, accommodation is rented for a clearly defined period, usually several weeks to several months. What counts is the duration agreed in the contract, which gives both sides planning certainty. These agreements differ from a classic tenancy through the fixed term, all inclusive cost models with bills included, and simplified handover processes. For tenants this creates a flexible, time saving and cost transparent housing solution that greatly reduces the effort of a regular move.

The deposit secures the inventory and is due before you move in. It is normally €500.00 for rooms and apartments and €1,000.00 for team accommodation.
Good to know: the cost of the final cleaning is offset directly against the deposit when you move out, so you do not need to transfer it separately. The remaining amount is usually refunded to your account within 14 days of your departure.

Registration (landlord confirmation) is possible in principle, but it is tied to one condition: your planned stay must be at least 6 months. For short term project work below that duration, registering one of our properties as a main residence is normally not possible. Please raise this with us before you sign.

Yes. To keep prices fair and administration low, our minimum rental period is 7 nights. Most of our guests stay several weeks or months. Extending your stay is usually straightforward if the accommodation is available.

We want you to travel light: bed linen is provided free of charge and changed every 14 days.
Please note: towels are not part of the equipment. Please bring your own hand and bath towels.

We know that projects can shift. That is why we offer far more flexible notice periods than the regular housing market. Depending on the type of agreement they are usually between 7 and 14 days, and 30 days to the end of the term for long term agreements. The conditions that apply to you are set out individually in your quote.

Your accommodation is designed for the number of people named in the agreement. Short visits are of course no problem. If a guest wants to stay overnight, this is only possible by prior arrangement and for a small surcharge. Subletting to third parties is not permitted.

Your check in is entirely contactless and flexible. Once the first rent payment and the deposit have reached us, we send you detailed arrival instructions and the code for the key safe at the property. That way you can arrive without stress, even late in the evening or at the weekend, with no fixed appointment to arrange.

Temporary living ends as soon as the stay no longer counts as temporary. That is the case, for example, when the tenant moves their centre of life into the accommodation, exceeds the agreed fixed term, or when circumstances point to permanent use.

Legally, the tenant has to show that they do not intend to live there permanently. If they cannot, the fixed term tenancy can turn into a regular, open ended one. A stay of up to six months is normally considered clearly temporary.
